Shrewsbury Food Hub continues to be an active partner working with Shropshire Good Food Partnership, which has been particularly busy over the last few months with the Shropshire Good Food Trail and many other events and activities.

Ali Thomas and Steve “The Hungry Guy” have been supporting the Schools Food Web.  This project is helping schools in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin to decarbonise, build food resilience and increase access to nutritious, healthy food for all.  There will be a free CPD event for schools at OsNosh on Feb 10th 2025 (Reserve your place)

The SGFP food waste reduction focus group, led by Katy Anderson (SGFP) and Mark Foxall (Shropshire Council) drafted a Food Waste Prevention Strategy with the support of Ali Thomas and Andrew Howe, working alongside a number of other Shropshire organisations. This document was incorporated into the Council’s Waste Prevention Draft Strategy 2024 – 2030, launched for public consultation at the end of September. A timely document since household food waste collections will cease temporarily until new collections restart in 2026.  The Food Hub’s activities will continue contributing to the strategy by reducing food waste and promoting better awareness.

After a successful first event in 2023, the Marches Real Food and Farming Convergence took place in October 2024, hosted at Babbinswood Farm by SGFP and organisations from Monmouthshire, Herefordshire, and North and South Powys. The event is as much for building a stronger and more resilient food system across the Marches as it is a formal conference for sharing knowledge and good practice. Andrew Howe attended on behalf of both the Hub and the Landing Project, an Arts Council funded project bringing artists, farmers and communities together using creativity to explore the past, present and future of farming and land use.

Do look out for this event again next year as it is a great opportunity to meet and hear from local producers, farmers, local and national organisations on a wide range of topics and to sample some great food!
