For food emergency support, visit Shropshire Larder

We are excited to announce that Shrewsbury Food Hub has received a generous £304k funding from the National Lottery Community Fund! This support, spread over three years, will help us continue our mission to rescue surplus food for environmental and social good.

With this funding, we will expand our Community Kitchen initiative, collaborating with various community groups in Shrewsbury. We’ll use surplus food to teach cooking skills and ensure that the food is eaten rather than wasted.

The project will deliver impact in the following areas:

  • Community Benefits: Participants in our Community Kitchen events often make new friends and enjoy an increased sense of community. Many have noted a positive impact on mental health due to the sense of achievement and positivity. Additionally, participants not only gain confidence in cooking skills but this confidence can also lead to enhanced employment opportunities.
  • Support for Community Groups: The network of community groups, charities, and organisations we work with also benefit. Food distribution and supply costs are reduced through the use of surplus food, allowing for the provision of wider services.
  • Environmental Impact: The rescued food reduces the carbon footprint and increases our contribution to net zero targets.
  • Building Resilient Communities: We are proud to be part of work that builds stronger and more resilient communities for now and the future.

A huge thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund and to all our supporters for believing in our cause. Over the next three years, we will continue to share updates and highlight how these programs impact your community.
