Depot Assistants
Objective: To keep depot activities running smoothly
Task: A varied role – no two days are the same! Tasks include food collections from suppliers (in your vehicle/our van); receiving deliveries and sorting food ready to go out to our partners; maintaining a tidy/ safe depot. You will be a key part of our food rescue operation!
Training: Digital welcome/ Induction presentations. In person training at the depot. Covid safety. Food Safety Level 2 & Manual Handling training. Van training.
Timing: Weekdays 9:30am – 12 noon, 12 noon – 3:30pm
Skills: A hands on person who likes to get stuck in with any task that pops up! Flexible, with the ability to think on their feet as part of a team. Ability to lift (sometimes heavy) loads. Access to vehicle. Ability to drive Movano van desirable but not essential.
Van Drivers
Objective: To collect & deliver large amounts of food
Task:To safely drive our van (Ronnie) to collect & deliver food. Depending on your availability, this could be regular early morning collections from supermarkets & deliveries or ad hoc collections of food throughout the day. This could sometimes be chilled/ frozen food, as we now have a chiller van. You’ll be amazed at the range and amount of food that we redistribute, which would have otherwise been wasted!
Training: Digital welcome/ Induction presentations. In person training at the depot. Covid safety. Food Safety Level 2 & Manual Handling training. Van training.
Timing: Either 7:30 – 9:30 am weekdays/weekends or ad hoc (responding to our on call whatsapp group)
Skills: Safe, confident van driver (or have the desire to be trained). Clean driving license. Ability to lift & carry. Willingness to drive further afield than Shrewsbury to collect surplus food desirable.
Food Rescue Drivers
Objective: To collect, sort & deliver surplus food
Task: Be a food hero! Collect leftover food from 4/5 supermarkets, bring it to sort at the depot with the team, then deliver it out to our partner groups e.g The Ark, Schools. You will be key to getting good food into bellies & not bins!
Training: Digital welcome/ Induction presentations. In person training to show you the route. Covid safety. Food Safety Level 2 & Manual Handling training. Van training.
Timing: Monday – Sat 7:30 – 9:30am or Sunday 8:30 – 10:30am
Skills: Ability to lift (sometimes heavy) loads. Driving license. Access to vehicle (that can fit food trays in). A team player that can think on their feet. Ability to drive Movano van desirable.
